CLINICAL EFFECTIVENESS OF TREATMENT OF CHRONIC PROSTATITIS WITH IMPAIRED FERTILITY WITH THE ANTIOXIDANT COMPLEX

Abstract

Introduction. In recent years, it has been found that oxidative stress is an important factor in the development of infertility in men. Therefore, taking antioxidants to improve sperm quality (in subfertile men) is widely discussed. There was an improvement in sperm quality after taking antioxidants. However, this issue is still underestimated. Critics complain that there is a lack of data regarding, firstly, the use of antioxidants due to heterogeneity between patient groups, nutritional supplements and treatment effects and, secondly, limited data regarding the effect of antioxidants on sperm improvement outcomes. This study assessed the effect of the Fertilife antioxidant complex on sperm parameters and treatment results in 30 men who were treated for chronic prostatitis with impaired fertility. During the treatment cycle, an analysis of the ejaculate was made and data related to the treatment results were recorded. Semen samples were evaluated according to WHO criteria.
The aim of the study. Research the effect of the antioxidant complex Fertilife on patients spermogram, who have chronic prostatitis and fertility disorders.
Material and methods. The study included adult patients from 18 to 50 years old. Using a random selection method, patients were divided into 2 groups – main (n=30) and control (n=30). The assessment of the condition was carried out on the basis of: the IIEF questionnaire, spermogram, ultrasound examination and examination of prostate secretions. The main group took antioxidant complex as a background therapy, according to the following scheme: 1 sachet 1 time per day for 90 days. The control group, instead of the antioxidant complex used tocopherol acetate (vitamin E) 1 capsule 2 times a day, for 90 days as placebo therapy.
Results. During the analysis of the IIEF questionnaire, the majority of patients in the main group experienced an increase in their total scores as a result of treatment, which shows the effectiveness of therapy in this group. Before using the antioxidant complex in treatment, 22 (73.3%) of 30 patients had impaired sperm motility in the ejaculate, while after therapy this indicator was detected in 4, which is several times less than the initial one. As a result of treatment, the volume of ejaculate in patients increased from 3.1±0.3 ml to 4.8±0.2 (p<0.01), viscosity decreased from 17.8±2.7 mm to 14.3±1.1 (p<0.05), the liquefaction period decreased from 24.8±3.2 minutes to 15.7±2.9 minutes (p<0.01) and I would like to note an increase in citric acid in the ejaculate from 16.9±1.7 mmol/l to 24.8±1.9 mmol/l.
Discussion. According to similar studies studying the effect of food supplements containing drugs that affect antioxidant stress, there is a slight improvement in sperm fertility. The results of the study confirm that the antioxidant complex improves motility and sperm count in complex therapy, and also improves fertility in general in patients with chronic prostatitis.
Conclusions. The use of this drug for 90 days led to an improvement not only in fertile function but also improved the quality of life, helped normalize blood flow and reduce prostate swelling, and also normalized sexual function in patients with chronic prostatitis. The clinical effectiveness of treatment with the drug according to the study was 81.8%. The antioxidant complex is well tolerated by patients. No side effects were noted.
