THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE COMBINED METABIOTIC LACTOBACILLUS REUTERI and BROCCOPHANE EVALUATION IN THE ERADICATION OF HELICOBACTER PYLORI INFECTION

Abstract

Introduction. Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori) is the most common infection among the population, which is the cause of many diseases (chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer, stomach cancer), so effective eradication is important.
The study aimed to examine the role of the combined metabiotic drug Pilospey® SPEY MEDICAL Ltd, containing inactivated strains of Lactobacillus reuteri and Broccoli Sprout Powder (Broccophane), in raising the efficiency of a 3-component Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy in patients with gastroduodenal pathology.
Material and methods. The study included adult patients who underwent upper gastrointestinal tract endoscopy and 14C-urease respiratory tests (14C-URT) in Almaty City polyclinics to diagnose H. pylori infections.
The patients were randomized into two groups: the study group (n=30) and the controls (n=30). At point 1, all study participants underwent upper gastrointestinal tract endoscopy for diagnostic purposes and a 14C-urease breath test (14C-UBT) to diagnose H.pylori infections. After 30 days of treatment, the H.pylori eradication efficacy was assessed in both groups by 14C-UBT.
In the study group, the patients followed a triple eradication therapy regimen, which included omeprazole 20 mg BID, clarithromycin 500 mg BID, and amoxicillin 1000 mg BID for 14 days. The patients received a Pilospey capsule OD for 30 days. Each combined metabiotic capsule contained inactivated Lactobacillus reuteri (1x1011 cells/g) and Broccoli Sprout Powder (Broccophane).
The controls were administered the same triple eradication regimen as the main group but without the combined metabiotic drug Pilospey.
Results. The treatment results in both groups were assessed 30 days after. Our studies showed a much higher eradication rate in the main group, which received a triple eradication scheme with the combined metabiotic drug Pilospei (90.0% vs. 29.2% in the control group, p<0.001). No adverse events or side effects were registered in the main group. The tolerability of the combined metabiotic was high in all patients.
Discussion. The literature reports that the inactivated Lactobacillus reuteri strains and Broccoli Sprout Powder (Broccophane) contained in meta biotics have pronounced therapeutic effects such as restoring the balance of disturbed microflora, suppressing the adhesive properties of bacteria, inactivating urease, and increasing the patient’s immunological response. These properties help to suppress the growth of H.pylori bacteria and accelerate their destruction.
Conclusion. Due to its high therapeutic efficacy, safety, and absence of adverse events and side effects, the combined metabiotic Pilospei could be recommended for use in various H.pylori infection eradication schemes in patients with gastroduodenal pathology.
