CLINICAL-AND-EPIDEMIOLOGICAL PECULIARITIES OF POST-COVID SYNDROME DEVELOPMENT (literature review)

Abstract

Introduction. Studies show that approximately 10-20% of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 may develop symptoms that can be diagnosed as protracted COVID. Although the exact number of people living with the disease is not known, it is estimated that more than 17 million people in the WHO European Region may have experienced it during the first two years of the pandemic (2020-2021).
Purpose. To review current information on the epidemiology, clinical features and possible pathogenetic mechanisms for the development of long-term consequences of coronavirus infection on the pulmonary system
Material and methods. Literature was used from sources such as PubMed, Web of Science for the keywords: Covid-19, SARS-CoV-2, post-acute COVID-19 syndrome, long-term COVID-19. The work used literature reviews, systematic reviews, meta-analyses. Search depth – 2020-2023. Exclusion criteria: lack of evidence.
Results. A diverse clinic of complaints and the general condition of patients who have recovered from COVID-19 is currently a serious problem for world health. Discussion. The main focus of clinicians and researchers has been on the acute phase of COVID-19, but continued health monitoring after discharge is needed to detect long-term effects.
Conclusions. In this review, we reviewed the more common possible long-term effects of COVID-19 on the bronchopulmonary system and the mechanisms associated with their development. It is not necessary to distinguish between people who have had a CV infection in a hospital or outpatient setting, both groups show symptoms of post-acute COVID-19 syndrome equally.
