AGE AND GENDER CHARACTERISTICS OF THE ANTIPSYCHOTIC DRUG PALIPERIDONE USE IN THE THERAPY OF PARANOID SCHIZOPHRENIA IN THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN

Abstract

Introduction. Schizophrenia is one of the most common mental disorders, leading to adverse social and economic consequences. Given the variety of its interrelated clinical and humanitarian impacts, schizophrenia is one of the most costly diseases for society. Therefore, the development of effective therapy methods for schizophrenia is an urgent problem not only for psychiatry but also for the public health of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Aim of the study. To study the gender and age characteristics of the efficacy and tolerability of paliperidone in patients of Kazakh nationality with schizophrenia.
Material and methods. The study included 221 patients of Kazakh nationality with a clinically verified diagnosis of "Paranoid Schizophrenia" corresponding to the criteria of ICD-10 category F20.0. The study used clinical-psychopathological and psychometric methods (PANSS scale), followed by a comparative analysis of the efficacy and tolerability of paliperidone across specific age and gender groups.
Results. Gender and age characteristics of dynamics in the clinical presentation of paranoid schizophrenia during the use of paliperidone in persons of Kazakh nationality were studied using the PANSS psychometric scale. In this clinical study, the modern atypical antipsychotic paliperidone was effective in long-term therapy (over 6 months) in patients of Kazakh nationality with schizophrenia across all age groups, with a slight advantage in men over 30 years of age, demonstrating good tolerability and a low risk of undesirable side effects.
Discussion. The clinical observation data obtained in this study on the use of the antipsychotic drug paliperidone in the therapy of paranoid schizophrenia confirm the results of previously conducted foreign and domestic studies regarding the sufficient efficacy and safety of this drug in achieving the most favorable prognosis for this mental disorder. The comparative analysis of data on the efficacy and safety of paliperidone in specific age and gender groups presented in this paper allows for a personalized approach to selecting antipsychotic therapy, taking into account the patient's sex and age, thereby improving their quality of life and social functioning.
Conclusions. Based on the results of the clinical study, it was established that the modern atypical antipsychotic paliperidone is effective in long-term therapy for patients of Kazakh nationality with schizophrenia across all age groups of the adult population, with good tolerability and a low risk of undesirable side effects. The data obtained in this study can serve as the basis for an innovative approach to personalized therapy for patients with paranoid schizophrenia in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
